homes.

I know a house is really truly a box which houses the home.

Nevertheless, I am beginning to see how important a nice, clean home with character, is to me as we continue to look at home after home. Denying its importance to my soul is like denying my true hair color (why do i always talk about hair...ugh. I think it's a complex from having a fro all those years).

Home is the place where it feels right to walk around without shoes And many of the homes we have looked out, will not suffice for shoelessness. Nor wee ones crawling around.

The homes in this area can be summed up in one layout:

OR if you want to get REAL fancy http://boise.craigslist.org/apa/1323873816.html

These homes are everything I am not.
(Apparently they only had two builders in this city.)

I come from a place where you can find rentals and for sales more like this. Please, take a gander:

http://kansascity.craigslist.org/reb/1321644522.html

I know it really shouldn't matter to me, but it does.

Oh, how it does.

That being said, please drool over this kitchen. Looking at it gives me butterflies in my stomach and puts a smile on my face. I love beautiful.

ok i TOTALLY get your frustration. but maybe here is a bright side, you could pay TWICE as much as that in utah for half the square footage. or QUADRUPLE the price like poor kathy in san francisco! i would kill for a $700 mortgage. but yes those houses are ugly and that kitchen AMAZING.

I actually am drooling over the kitchen.

Go midwest!! I feel your pain...we are house hunting now too and I want to barf at the site of a lot of the homes (in our price range :) in utah...if Boise had two builders, Utah - the whole state - probably had 3!

This is why someday...we're building and designing our own home,

I do love that kitchen - love the blue planking underneath the island. Yummy!

a bit of a theme in your recent posts... hope you find something that bucks you up.

Ohhh that kitchen makes me happy! Maybe one day...maybe.

I am about to write a similar post, except that our problem is not that we can't find character, but that everything is SO expensive. Everything's well over half a million, and these are tiny little two bedroom houses we're talking about, albeit cute:)

I completely get what you are saying... if you guys are going to be there for a while.. that $8000 voucher for first time home buyers is still available for a couple more months!

Have you tried typing in "craftsman" into the boise craigslist keyword search?? There are a couple.. but I get what you're saying.. The surrounding area outside of boise is either farm town or newer (cookie cutter) and doesn't have that old world "character" that you find in KS.

PS... I ADORE that kitchen! So cute! I wish I would've been more adventurous and painted our island a different color like that.. maybe in the next house!

ok you got me! i LOVE LOVE LOVE that kitchen, that looks like my dream kitchen. and those houses in kansas city, so cute. i love the blue room in the first house. Utah has a better selection, but i feel like everything is very cookie cutterish which hate! but whatever house you find, i know you will make it so cute!

Cute kitchen but who would want to clean it? That's a lot of floor to mop.

Hi Andrea! This is Olivia (Jenna's friend). I am just blog stalking today and saw yours on Jenn's blog so thought I'd take a peek. Good luck with trying to find a house...if you're really looking? I hope you find something if so! Good 'ol Caldwell...I feel your pain.

You're absolutely right...the Kanses homes have SO much more character!

I have to say...I'm jealous about the house prices in Boise. It makes me sick to think that I could rent an entire house for what I pay for a single room.

Oh my gosh, I WOULD DIE to rent/ get a place for that cheap. Instead I am paying more than triple that for a shoebox of an apartment.

I feel your pain. I'm from TX where the homes are big, brick, beautiful and CHEAP.
