The Latest Roche Debate

I am not a dog person. Or an animal person in general. (This creates an issue considering animals are our livelihood. ) I just think they smell. And, I already clean up enough poop. Cow poop. Treyson poop. Trevor poop. (don't ask).

Before you think me heartless and cold, let me add. I always grew up with dogs. I think my dislike began when we got Corky the corgy dog. (Truth be told..I don't even remember his name) He was this little UGLY weiner dog that had a permanent red rocket and was constantly humping objects. Any object.
It traumatized me.
I digress.

Recently, I expressed to Trevor how scary I think it is out here. No city lights. No close neighbors. Dirt roads. It's a horror movie in the making. I'm just waiting for Freddy K. to come knocking. Granted, we are probably more safe here than in any suburb, but in my head, it's scary, especially with Trevor often gone.

He suggested a dog. Dogs will protect and warn if someone comes around the house. Again, not a dog person. Anybody followed this blog long enough to recall what occurred last summer when Trevor went behind my back, after I told him NO WAY, and got that stupid dog?

Yes, World War IV. Might I just add, that Trevor grew to HATE that dog due to the fact it was a HORRIBLE cattle dog and actually CHASED the cows away rather than gather?

sweet victory for me.

That dear dog now belongs to another owner.

So. Trevor wants to get another border collie. I, however, have found my heart in a less common breed as I have a special place in me for all things less fortunate looking. For some reason, I think the cutest things (babies, animals etc) are the really ugly ones.

Is he not adorable?
I'll let you guess what Trevor had to say about the idea.

Or about the $1700.00 price tag..
so. We remain dogless.

Oh my gosh Andrea! I can see why you want that little puppy! It's adorable!
I've always been a dog lover, so I'm going to say you need to get one(even with the added poop cleaning that will occur), it will make you feel much better when you're home alone with Trey.
Good luck with whatever you decide!!!!!

I had that SAME picture of an english bull dog on my blog a while back! Aren't they perfect!

We have a new english bulldog puppy that just moved into our complex, and she is so cute! I love saying hello to "Lola"!

Get one! Worth every penny!

It's true. You will be more safe. You will also freak out every time the dog's head jerks up or he barks or whines or runs to the window. So it'll make you feel safer and freak you out more at the same time :)

I'm a big dog fan so I would say get one eventually. I think it's good for kids to grow up with dogs for some reason. Probably just because I did. We had a dog from the moment I was born and for as long as I remember. Some of my best memories - so cheezy but so true.

I'm not an animal lover or dog person because I just don't want one more thing to clean up. But about 3 years ago when we first moved to AZ we were robbed. It was during the day when I was home, someone broke into our garage and back yard and stole some tools and a bike (aka- the get away car). Anyway, I was pretty freaked out because it happened when I was home so we went out and got a dog. I hated it. Not the dog personally, but the extra responsiblity. After 3 months my husband accidentally (really- it was an accident) left the gate open and the dog ran away. I didn't look too hard, but he never came back. Now I just take my chances...no dogs for me. BTW, Your dream dog is super cute!

My parents have a bulldog and it really is the BEST dog ever! He is sooooo good with my girls and he doesn't have to be walked all the time and is really protective, but not to a fault! Seriously I love it. I am not a dog person either, but I would want one if I were you!

do your research before you buy (or preferably, adopt) an EB. they are so inbred they have serious health problems more often than not. you have got to be prepared to shell out the money and take care of them for the next 10 - 12 years, and EBs are not cheap. my bully breed rescue has pulled 5 off death row in the past year and they all had serious health issues that cost us $1000s. also, if you are not so hot on having a dog i would be wary of getting a puppy - more poop and much more destruction. the puppy phase only lasts a few months, then that cute little pup is no more. consider adopting an adult dog that is already house and obedience trained. many rescues use foster homes and you can adopt an adult that has lived with children so you know it'll be good with trey.

Adjusting to life with a baby was far easier than adjusting to life with a puppy. They are a ton of work! I liked the comment about post-puppy depression. It's real. If I could do it over, I would have waited to get a dog until my kids were older. That's just my opinion for what it's worth.
